ENAS NASHIF

INTRODUCTION

In April, Among the Pines gallery introduces the work of Palestinian photographer Enas Nashif. The exhibition presents ten still life images of foods that are inherent in the Palestinian culture.

ARTIST STATEMENT

'This series grows from my relationship with food and family, rooted in the kitchen my mother holds. These everyday ingredients carry memories of care, routine, and togetherness.

I photographed them slowly, paying attention to light, texture, and the quiet moments before change. Each image holds a sense of comfort and familiarity, inviting the viewer into an intimate domestic space.

Through this work, I reflect on presence and connection, exploring how simple objects can carry emotional weight. The photographs speak softly about home, touch, and time, about the small rituals that shape us. This series is both personal and shared, offering a gentle pause to notice what is often overlooked.

As a Palestinian citizen in Israel, I have faced significant challenges in representing my identity. Throughout my life, I have witnessed how my culture is being erased, and I have struggled to express my Palestinian heritage openly. Photography became a powerful way for me to document practices and memories that are slowly being erased. Through my lens, I strive to capture and preserve my Palestinian culture, showcasing my identity, language, and heritage in the face of growing erasure. This mission is deeply personal to me, as it allows me to assert my identity and share the rich, vibrant traditions of my people with the world.'
