MINA MOHTASHAM
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Mina Mohtasham received a BFA in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in 2021 and graduated from the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in 2023. While painting remains central to her practice, she works across drawing and sculpture as well.
Mohtasham has received numerous awards and honors, including the Raymond D. Estelle Rubens Travel Scholarship, first place in the Susan McDowell Eakins Figure Painting Prize and the Stimson Figure Sculpting Competition at PAFA, and first place in the Salmagundi Club Annual Figure Drawing Competition. In 2021 and 2025, she was awarded an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant. She currently exhibits and teaches drawing and painting internationally.
Working primarily from observation, Mohtasham’s work is guided by an interest in light, atmosphere, and capturing the quiet character of everyday moments. At the same time, her interests in flat abstraction, color dynamics, and collage challenge the spatial feeling and breaks the illusionistic sense of space. Drawing on a strong foundation in both traditional techniques and current ideas, she creates works that balance careful observation with a fresh, contemporary perspective.
