ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Saima Kaur is a textile artist specialising in hand embroidery inspired by Indian folk art. With its bold shapes, bright colours and areas of pure stitch, Kaur’s work has a strong graphic quality. Her joyful embroideries combine people, animals and patterns to create works that suggest otherworldly stories.
She is a self-taught textile with an undergraduate degree in Contemporary Arts and an MA in Museum Studies. Her work is informed by her decade of working in the museums sector and her deep interest in 19th Century Phulkari embroideries from Punjab, India.
ABOUT THE COLLECTION
This capsule collection explores the themes of connection and transformation. Each hand embroidery links humans with an element of nature, suggesting ways in which we originate and return to one other. The artworks are intimate and playful, making space for a moments of delight.
Saima's work is inspired by the storytelling Phulkari embroideries from Punjab and as such, use simple illustrative methods to craft something contemporary and unique.
