A cook, a ballerina, an old man with a white beard who is dressed like a boy and a blue acrobat assemble together. Comrades of the spirit in a world not seen. Beauty and childishness, cooking and acrobatics are the themes which draw this assembly. The artist felt a sense of pathos in making this painting and drew upon the wonderful short story of ‘Tortilla Flats’ by John Steinbeck in which the innocent exploits of youthful innocence is described. Old age can still enjoy beauty, fine dining and the spirit of the acrobatic with childish zeal.
