SEASCAPES AND STILL LIFE BY SOPHIE HARDING
  • Sophie Harding was born in London, in 1970, and graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1992 with a BA (Hons) in Fashion and Textile Design. After college she proceeded to work full time as a painter, illustrator, and textile designer creating images for cards, gift wraps, homewares, and magazine and book illustrations both for the UK and worldwide clients. Her clients have included Marks and Spencer, Ladybird Books, The Art Group, Artists’s Cards Ltd and Dunoon.

Sophie’s paintings have been shown and sold in galleries around the U.K. since 1988. Her work focuses on simplicity, joy and harmony. She captures small moments in life by painting or printing the essence of a scene or group of objects. Her paintings are primarily driven by colour with an emphasis on the power colour has to evoke positive emotions. She lives in Penzance where she works in a small studio in her house, a few minutes walk from the seafront.

I was thrilled when Sophie suggested collaborating on a series of paintings inspired by the work of William Scott, one of my favourite artists.

Creating this new series of work has been a dream project and I’ve loved working on them. I’m very much inspired by the way Scott abstracts and simplifies everyday objects with a pared back sophistication. It’s how I like to work myself, focussing on the essence and omitting details that aren’t required in order to create satisfying and strong work.”
